Harvest time

29/09/2011 - 9:53am

Welcome back to a busy autumn, after what I hope was a stress free and relaxing summer... Yes, I know it has been a while since life officially began after the holidays, but just starting up all those regular things like school, activities, cooking and wearing decent clothing after aseason of cutoffs and questionable t-shirts, takes longer than one thinks. So now when all is calm and organised - let's party a bit!

First out this October is actually on the first of October; The Barnes Food Fair. "The Village on the River", as the tagline goes, is hosting a massive food fair, put on by the Barnes Community Association in aid of resurrecting the local playing fields. There will be huge marquees by the ponds and a large number of local businesses, celebrity chefs, TV and radio will be there to eat drink and be merry, and of course you shall find US there too!

The next date for your calendar is October 4th, which to some slightly more mature readers might mean the day you protested against the state penion funds, but in latter years means the day of the cinnamon bun. I'm sure most of you have come across one of these lovelies by now, but it's a really good day to drag your friends down with you. Buy them a bag for elevenses or bake your own. There's an excellent recipe on the website.

In fact, Swedish Cinnamon rolls. Or buns. Or swirls - as we say in Sweden; "a beloved child has many nicknames" - are so hot right now, they are everywhere! Including on the flyers and ads for the scandinaviashow.co.uk/, at Earl's Court on October 8-9. It is the biggest Scandifair yet and if you had any doubts before on how cool it is to be from way up north - come see for yourself. We'll bring our best as always and looking forward to seeing every single one of you! Well be sharing stand 127 with Daniel from www.bageriet.co.uk/, a truly talented pastry chef who makes the most divine little Swedish biscuits. You really have to try them! Come on by and have a taste of www.fria.se lovely chocolate cake and various kinds of breads, and maybe shop a little bit? Every customer will get a very handy TotallySwedish reusable shopping bag.

So, what else is new? Well, we are busy, busy filling up the shops with new exciting foods, books and presents. Always one to focus on the really necessary things, we are happy to tell you there will soon be a Swedish Pick and Mix in the Barnes shop.

We look forward to seeing you soon. Until next time - L'Shana Tova to those of you who celebrate, and may you be inscribed for next year. And remember, we recite our sins in alphabetical order, as the number of letters are finite but our remorse is not.
