A long-awaited interpretation
This year's glögg transports us to rolling snow-covered valleys and pine-covered mountain peaks, finally landing in the Alps. Ever since the start of Blossa's over 20-year-old tradition of vintage glögg, a red variant has been in high demand among mulled wine enthusiasts, and this year is the time for the first time.
The reason why our previous vintage glöggs were based on white wine has its explanation: that we only use natural ingredients. When we flavor our glögg, with raspberries for example, only real berries are used in the extraction. No shortcuts are taken. This makes it significantly more challenging to get the flavors to emerge in a glögg based on red wine, where the strong character of the wine can easily take over.
A tribute to the traditional glühwein
Glögg and glühwein are closely related. For us Swedes, the less sweet glühwein has a strong connection to German-speaking countries - not least the Alps. Just like glögg, glühwein is usually made with red wine and it therefore felt like a perfect source of inspiration for this year's glögg. Blossa 25 is a fortified wine glögg made with red wine that gets its character from lemon zest, dried orange peel and spruce shoots. A little juniper has been added to enhance the taste of the forest. The bright green spruce shoots are Blossa's tribute to the scenic and fresh alpine environments, which in this glühwein interpretation are combined with Blossa's traditional glögg spices. As usual, the spices have been allowed to macerate and store for at least five months, before being mixed with the other ingredients.
In proud collaboration with Rörstrand
A unique glögg mug is being launched for this year's edition of vintage glögg, developed in collaboration between Blossa and the renowned porcelain brand Rörstrand. With almost 300 years of experience in timeless Swedish design and craftsmanship, Rörstrand shares the same sense of tradition and quality as Blossa. The mug is decorated, like the bottle, with a motif inspired by the landscape of the Alps.
